There is also a special kitchen in the administrative part of the zoo where animal food is stored, prepared, and distributed, as well as a veterinary clinic and quarantine section.
Ecological Scientific-Educational Center
The Ecological Scientific-Educational Center at Sofia Zoo was established in 1998. It is located in a single-story building near the pony exhibition.
The center has a lecture and projection hall with a capacity of around 30 people.
The main activities of the center are related to organizing and implementing ecological education within the Sofia Zoo, including working with students and pupils.
The Ecological Center's team creates special programs, informational campaigns and materials, research projects and developments, volunteer programs, and projects related to the zoo's conservation activities, as well as staff training. The building also houses animals suitable for the center's educational activities.
The platform contains information about the zoo (history, animals, maps, signs), games, and coloring materials for children aged 7 to 12 years. These can be downloaded for free, printed, and used during visits to the zoo.
Children are divided into 2 age groups (7-9 years and 10-12 years), each with 15 children.
Activities are conducted over 5 days (Monday to Friday) from 10 am to 4 pm according to a special program - with educational notebooks with colorful illustrations, entertaining presentation of information, games, and of course, contact and care for animals at the Ecological Center.
Meetings are held every Sunday from early October to mid-May.
Donation Program
Those who wish to support the care of the animals can become donors or adopters. Each donor/adopter receives a certificate with a photo of the animal they have adopted. Donations can be in the form of money (by bank transfer or paid at the zoo's ticket office) or in the form of goods, materials, and services (a document proving their value - receipt, invoice - is required). All donations are announced in the Public Register on the Sofia Municipality website.
